This article is about Gabrielle Ludwig, the first transgender basketball player to play college ball as both a male and female. Robert Ludwig played one year at a community college on Long Island. Transgender student athletes who have taken medication to suppress testosterone for a year may compete on women's teams under a policy adopted last year. Because of this, Gabrielle was allowed to play NCAA basketball now as a 50-year-old, 6 foot 6, 220 pound female at Mission College. She got the surgery to become a female when she was 45 years old and despite threats and people making fun of her, Gabrielle has a loving and accepting team who say “If someone is going to talk against her, they are talking against all of us because it's like she is part of a family."
