Relates to my previous post, we see how the crash caused men to loose there jobs and move on to the so called "pink collar jobs." There is a chart of the male increase percentage in different occupations.

The Pink - Collar Job Boom

This article talks about how the Great Recession had a huge affect on men entering the "pink collar jobs." It states that most of the jobs that were lost during the recession were blue collar jobs. Finding a job for these men to make money for their families was the hardest part, and thats how this whole new shift started happening.

Using the Law to Crack the Glass Ceiling

This article is from London and it is stating how the German Parliament rejected something that stated that large companies need to reserve 20% of board seats for women. However, the European governments adopted a gender equality legislation. A lot of people are angry that these laws are not in place. The European Commission proposed that legal quotas should now be adopted throughout the 27-member bloc. Some governments held out, insisting that any reforms should be left up to national parliaments. The commission revised the plan to favor the "underrepresented gender."

This article is telling us about how the focus is always on women going into "male jobs" and how we can also see that nowadays men are entering a lot of "pink-collar" jobs. It is stating that even though men are entering "pink-collar" jobs and women are entering "male jobs" that doesn't mean that the workplace is entering into a form of equality. The men are still dominating and even in the "female jobs" they are earning more money and advancing much quicker.

Women In The Workforce: The Road Ahead Is Paved With Economic Freedom

This article talks about women in the workforce and how things have changed since the 1950s. Women have been taking more jobs and they take up 60% of the seats in college classrooms. All of this success and movement forward has paved the way for women in the future and the statistics will only increase.

Successful Women in the Workforce: Is it Really All or Nothing?

This article that I read talked about Erin Callan's point of view on the situation of women in the workforce. Her point of view was different from Sandberg's in that she didn't blame everything so much on the women as she did on the men. She was saying that women need to look before they lean in and that they also need a man who is willing to be stay at home and take care of the children.

Obama Apologizes for Praising Attorney General's Looks

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/06/us/politics/obama-apologizes-for-praising-female-officials-looks.html

The Attorney General, Kamala Harris, received a phone call this week from president Obama apologizing for saying "she is the best looking attorney general in the country." Some have criticized him for this offensive statement arguing that women have worked very hard in this country in order to achieve high stations and should not be reduced to aesthetics.

What do you think? Is this statement by the president offensive? Why or why not?
