Women, men must meet same combat standards in military

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta signed a new order in the Military opening as many as 237,000 new jobs to women. Military officials said that jobs such as infantry and artillery will have exacting physical requirements and standards will be maintained. The military has different standards based on age and sex for the Army and Marines. In both of those services the standards for infantry and other combat arms specialties will remain the same. Surveys of soldiers indicated that they are willing to give women a chance if the standards aren't lowered. The Military has several years to fully implement the new order but the plan will be executed incrementally.
